Desiccant Dehumidifiers Overcome Coil Freezing Problems
Dehumidifiers have only recently shrunk down to a size suitable for home use. Before that, it was widely used in industry to remove hundreds of liters of water from wet buildings and industrial processes.
The latest home dehumidifiers remove around 8 liters of water per day. They use a different process than traditional dehumidifiers. Air from the room is blown across discs containing naturally hygroscopic material. Moisture is then collected and the disc is heated to restore its moisture-absorbing capacity.
This new low temperature garage dehumidifier works in temperatures as low as 1C and reduces humidity to below 40% relative humidity.
Both mechanical refrigerated dehumidifiers and dehumidifiers require electrical power to operate.
