The truth of air conditioning dehumidification mode

For summer and autumn, especially the resurgence weather, the cooling mode and dehumidification mode of the air conditioner can be used. What is the difference between the two modes?

Real knowledge from experiment:

Lab environment

In a living room of about 15 square meters, the outdoor temperature is 35°C and the indoor temperature is 29°C.

Experiment procedure

The air conditioner was switched to dehumidification mode. After 15 minutes, the temperature slowly dropped and stabilized at 26°C. Subsequently, after turning off the air conditioner and the indoor temperature rose to 29°C, the air conditioner was turned on again to start the "cooling" mode, and the temperature was set to 26°C. After less than 10 minutes, the indoor temperature dropped and remained at 26°C.

The results of the three tests found that the dehumidification function of the air conditioner can indeed reduce the room temperature to a comfortable temperature of 26°C, and the body feel is not much different from the cooling mode!

So, why distinguish between dehumidification mode and cooling mode?

Dehumidification" is actually a special cooling mode.

In dehumidification mode, in order to achieve a better dehumidification effect, the air conditioner generally works under low air volume. At this time, the temperature of the heat exchanger of the indoor unit of the air conditioner is lower, which is more conducive to the condensation of water vapor in the air into water. In the dehumidification mode, the air conditioner will Start the compressor intermittently to reduce the indoor temperature while dehumidifying;

In the cooling mode, the compressor will always be on when it does not reach the predetermined temperature.

The air-conditioning energy efficiency test shows that the air-conditioning has a higher cooling efficiency when the compressor is running stably and the indoor air volume is large. In contrast, in the dehumidification mode, the compressor starts and stops intermittently, the air volume is low, and the cooling efficiency is greatly reduced. You should know that in the refrigeration state of air-conditioning refrigerators,  most of the power consumption comes from the compressor.

Professionals recommend that the dehumidification mode be turned on at night when the temperature is relatively low and the humidity is high to achieve the effect of adjusting the room temperature and humidity, and it is better to "cool down" during the day when the outdoor temperature is high.

In situations where the need to reduce humidity is the main focus, such as some days when the humidity is too high in winter, or where the humidity needs to be controlled, a dehumidifier can avoid a lot of troubles.
